THE BIG MOVE: The Arc moves its main campus to Crestwood

The Arc of Jefferson County recently moved from its former main campus off Green Springs Highway to the former Salvation Army Youth Center in Crestwood.  Currently more than one hundred adults with intellectual disabilities receive services at the new campus, which includes a gym, dozens of classrooms and ample space for therapy sessions and nursing visits.  For the first time in years, all the administrative and financial staff of The Arc will be under one roof.

The move was necessary due to space limitations at the Green Springs Highway campus.  That facility had served the organization well over the past five decades but with an increase of people who need The Arc’s services, it simply wasn’t big enough.  In fact, at the former campus, therapy sessions sometimes took place in areas like hallways, and the gymnasium space available couldn’t be used for true gym activities.  It had been turned into a space for classrooms.

Staff members at The Arc are grateful for the new space and see its benefits daily for each individual the organization serves.

“The move to the Crestwood building provides consumers and staff with increased opportunities for recreation and training,” says Derek Bond, Vice President of Day and Work Programs.  “Having access to a full functioning gym, several kitchens and numerous classrooms presents The Arc with a unique opportunity to improve on the overall day programming experience.”
